Canform’s production machine, which had been in use for decades, was still functioning mechanically without a hitch, but there were underlying concerns about the aging control logic and the availability of spare parts. The situation hadn’t yet halted production, but the risk of it doing so was growing.
The machine originally dated back to 1985. The mechanics were still working, but the logic was beginning to reach a critical state. The decision to act was made before the problems could affect production. Kari Kivistö was brought on board for the modernization project, and his expertise brought the project to a successful conclusion. Together with Kari, we planned and implemented a logic update that also enabled the expansion of sensor technology and provided flexibility for future development needs. The most important thing was to keep production downtime to a minimum and ensure continuity.
“With Kari’s help, we were able to update the machine’s logic and restore production reliability — the machine now runs even better than when it was new,” says CEO Jouni Antinaho.
The modernized automation system provides a clear and up-to-date view of the machine’s operation, and the new solutions have increased reliability and reduced waste. The principles of sustainable development are realized as the old machine’s lifecycle was extended and production downtime was reduced.
Jouni Antinaho: "I highly recommend Finno Solutions Oy to all companies facing similar automation challenges."
